Agjabadi City

Administrative center is Agjabadi city. The name means a large dwelling (Agja – large, Badi – dwelling, settlement). This city is one of the ancient living quarters of Azerbaijan. The material signs proving this antiquity eneolithic, bronze, survivals of residential areas belonging to ancient period and middle ages such as Kamiltapa, Nargiztapa, Garakober, Yantapa, Galatapa and Gavur aryk draw attention.

. The historians note comparing these hills with the Pyramids, it’s fact that, the Gavur aryk was repaired by Tamerlane (Temur the Lame) in 16th century completely, while it’s supposed that, Alexander the Great repaired it. It’s possible to meet with shaped tombstone hewn from the stones belonging to middle ages in the graveyards. Agjabadi region was established in 1930, abolished in 1963 and subordinated to Aghdam Region, became an independence in 1965, again.
