After the fall of the Soviet Union, many Soviet statues and sculptures were removed or moved to museums.
But, now Soviet monuments of Azerbaijan maybe convened in one place – a new park.
Rafael Huseynov, chairman of State Committee on National Culture, has voiced the initiative.
"When the monuments of the Soviet period were demolished in Baku, I suggested that they could be collected and installed in a separate park. So you could bring children here and introduce them to the history of the Soviet period. So that they could know that Azerbaijan was occupied but was able to regain independence," said Huseynov.
There were political figures, who at that time were considered heroes, streets were named after them. However, times have changed. On the other hand, during the Soviet period the names of republic founders were banned. The main thing is to bring a story to the future generations, as it is, he added.
The committee chairman reminded that the law "On decommunization" was adopted in Poland.
"This law provided for demolition of monuments reminiscent of the existence of communism. We are against the demolition of these monuments. This is a story, and it can not be touched," he noted.
