Shaki (Azerbaijan) was selected the cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2016 during the 33rd session of the TURKSOY permanent council held in Turmenistan's Mary on November 26.
Oxu.Az reports citing the Ministry of Culture and Tourism that the event is attended by first Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan Vagif Aliyev
Speaking at the session, the first deputy minister of culture and tourism of Azerbaijan Vagif Aliyev stressed the importance of the project 'Cultural capital of the Turkic world' implemented by TURKSOY.
He asked TURKSOY to consider Azerbaijan's proposal to declare Shaki, one of the ancient historical and cultural centers of Azerbaijan, the cultural capital of the Turkic world.
It was noted that declaration of Shaki the cultural capital of the Turkic world will play an important role in propaganda of our unique culture.
Members of the council voted unanimously for the city.
