Moscow’s renovated Central Mosque with 10,000 people capacity opened on Sept.23. The muslim shrine has become the largest in Europe.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, as well as representatives from a number of Muslim countries, ambassadors and senior officials of other religious confessions in Russia attended the opening ceremony.
The new building of the mosque was erected on the site of a historic one, which was built in the early XX century and demolished in 2011. The construction cost was about $ 170 mln.
The area of the mosque is 19 000 square meters. During the reconstruction it was increased by 20 times, which allows 10 000 prayers to perform namaz at the same time.
