R.B.Afandiyev museum of history and ethnography has been built according to the order of the Education Commissariat in Sheki in September 1925. The historical monument where the museum moved in 1980 was built for barracks purpose in 1895.

Total area of the museum is 924 square meters. Exposition halls are located in 724 square meters. About 5000 material and cultural monuments reflecting our history and culture were gathered in the museum. About 3000 of them are exposed in exhibition halls.

There are the following sections in the museum: 1) Nature; 2) Ancient time; 3) Ethnography; 4) Republican system; 5) Science, culture, education and medicine; 6) Heroism in war; 7) Sericulture; 8) Agriculture; 9) Sheki cookery culture; 10) Life activities of H. Aliyev and other sections that reflect his journey to Shaki.

The exhibits of the museum have been repeatedly exposed in foreign countries, such as Madagascar, Ethiopia, and Pakistan etc.

Along with foreign countries, the museum exhibits have been exposed in the exhibitions in the capital of our republic Baku city, in Sheki Turkish lyceum, in boarding-school N1 and in the events of other schools. Open day is held here in the first weekend of May every year; all the visitors learn the museum exhibits free of charge. During a year, visitors from different places of the world come to the museum; some well-known personalities of the world had written impressions in the visitor’s book of the museum.

New section reflecting life and activities of our national leader, deceased President H.Aliyev and opening of Sheki Olympic complex has been formed in the museum.
