Yalli included in UNESCO's Urgent Safeguarding list

"Yalli (Kochari, Tanzara), the traditional group dances of Nakhchivan, are included in UNESCO's List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding', Report informs citing the statement jointly published by the Ministries of Culture and Foreign Affairs.

The document states that Yalli (Kochari, Tanzara), traditional group dances of Nakhchivan, were included in UNESCO's List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding by the decision approved at the 13th Session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage held in Port Luis, the capital of the Republic of Mauritius on November 26-December 1.

The indicated nomination document was presented jointly by the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Azerbaijan to UNESCO.

"Like in case with other cultural heritage nominees, Armenia's provocative attempts against nomination of Yalli (Kochari, Tanzara), traditional group dances of Nakhchivan, were prevented by relevant authorities of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the delegation of our country gave a decent answer to the Armenian side.

With the support of the First Vice President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva, who has an exceptional role in the development of cooperation with UNESCO and the promotion of cultural heritage and worldwide promotion, Yalli (Kochari, Tanzara), traditional group dances of Nakhchivan, as well as the art of crafting and playing with kamancha, dolma making and sharing tradition, mugham art in Azerbaijan, lavash cooking and sharing tradition, Lahij copper, ashug art, Novruz holiday, carpet weaving art, tar- performing, kalaghayi were included in UNESCO’s Non-Material Cultural Heritage List, along with Chovqan, a traditional Karabakh horse-riding game, which was was included into the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List," the statement reads.
