Samukh city

There are various opinions on history of Samukh and origin of its name. According to widely accepted opinions, origin of Samukh is related with ancient Albanian toponyms which means forest land, grove. Region has obtained its historical name after 1992. Region is located on the left and right banks of Kur River. Gabirri, Ganikh rivers flow through the area of region, Gushgara river – through Garayeri settlement. In the northwest border of region, there is Bozdagh and Jeyran winter pastures. The agriculture of region mainly consists of wine-growing, animal-breeding, grain-growing and vegetable growing, fruit-growing. Wine-growing developed in this region. Forests are live natural museum. In autumn, Samukh’s Jeyranchol winter camp becomes a small-town of camps, nomad camps. Area makes 1,455 km². The region is located in the west of Republic and concerns Gazakh-Ganja economic zone. Samukh region is located in the area that is between Greater and Smaller Caucasus Mountains. Samukh is having same border with Georgia. Climate is dry continental. Eldar Shami State Reserve with an area of 1,686 m² is in this region. In the area of coast of Kur there are Tugay forests. According to archaeological excavations, this region has been existed since Stone Age. Its area was under Uti province of Albania stat, in III-V centuries. Sasmukh region was founded in the area of former Safaraliyev settlement. After a while, Safaraliyev was renamed to Nabiagali settlement. Nabiagali settlement was called as Samukh town, in 2008.Rare therapeutic barberry, hawthorn, sucker, horse-chestnut, black raspberry and etc. make Samukh more attractive. Imamzada mosque complex is located in the region. Imam Mohammad Bagir’s son prince Ibrahim, his son and his wife were buried here in 739. There is a medical hot water in Ali Bayramli village. The region has a town, 5 settlement and 29 villages.
