Babek city

Babek district is situated in the central part of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. It borders with Armenia in the north, with Iran - in the south. Landscape in the north and southeast of the country is mountainous; lowlands are in the south and southwest. The highest points in the district are Kechaltapa (2740 m), Garagush (2617 m) and Buzgov (2470 m) mountains. There are rock salt and construction materials fields in the territory of region, springs like Sirab, Vayhir, Ganab etc.

The summer is hot, winteris cold. Average temperature of january is from -3 C to -10 C; in July - from +28 C to +35 C (sometimes reaches up up to +40 C). Precipitations are not common here totaling to 200-600 mm. Main rivers are: Nakhchivanchay river dividing the district into two parts and its inflow Jahirchay river. The waters of these rivers are used in irrigation. Araz River runs along the border with Iran. There are storage pools: Araz, Uzunoba, Nehram, Sirab etc. Wolf, fox, jerboa, hedgehog etc. are among the animals.
