“Qarabag not forgotten, it is in the heart of the club”.
The physical preparation coach of Qarabag FC Ruben Selles said in his interview to La Razon publication ahead of match with Atletico in the III round of Champions League.
34-year-old specialist said various events held throughout the year on Nagorno Karabakh conflict:
“Three years ago base was set up for Qarabag in the outskirts of Baku. Though there is a love for Qarabag. Two of our footballers and coach who used to play as a footballer in Qarabag are from war region.”
Spanish coach joined Qarabag on May, 2015. While working at Shinnik in 2010 as an assistant referee he learned to speak Russian. “I also had trainer in Baku. I used to train and learn language every day. The head coach Gurban Gurbanov speaks Azerbaijani and Russian languages. We have a translator who speaks four languages including Spanish. But it is not a problem to communicate even without translator. When there is a will it is not difficult to understand each other. There are several coaches who in addition to Russian speak English. To order the food in hotel we ask for someone who speak English. And if it is absent we explain with hand gestures.”
Selles called Qarabag’s qualification for group stage of Champions League as an historical event for Azerbaijan. According to foreign coach who said “the streets were full of people. Upon arrival in Baku we were received by the head of the state”, Qarabag is the most professional club of Azerbaijan.
“Our head coach along with senior manager every day pays an attention to the club. Everything is built in the form of pyramid. It is true that we lost our first match in group with big score. We know that this is just a process but we did not digest that loss.As a result we played with Roma in a different shape.”
Apart from Ruben Selles, Spanish footballers Michel and Dani Kintana play for Qarabag FC.
